Greenfield Environmental Multistate Trust holds 2nd meeting

September 27, 2024 by Jason Beam

Caselton residents were invited to a second workshop at Thompson’s Opera House in Pioche Thursday, Sept. 19 at 5 p.m. The evening opened with dinner provided for guests. Open discussions were then held during which community members expressed concerns regarding the future of the project. With over fifty responses to surveys, focus groups and mapping exercises, residents expressed a desire for a vision that incorporates recreation, historic preservation, tourism and open space preservation. Key features include new bike/pedestrian trails, interpretative plaques, the transformation of existing buildings into museum spaces and an observation deck for events such as evening stargazing.

Solar energy facilities are also welcomed by residents so long as the facilities are placed in a way that preserves the beautiful views of the valley and mountains.

The most important steps ahead will include the pursuit of state and federal funding through grant programs that can catalyze future cleanup efforts and redevelopment.

The Vision to Action planning effort will translate the community’s vision into a plan that outlines key actions and activities for turning the vision into a reality.

Because state and federal grant programs emphasize community empowerment through collective visioning, the Vision To Action Plan will allow Lincoln County to be much more competitive in future funding efforts. The plan will be developed and published in Q4 2024.

Program director Tasha Lewis stated, “The overall Vision to Action workshop was positive and well attended by Caselton residents. Several residents expressed their appreciation for the project partners listening to them and incorporating their input into the visioning concept plans.”

Greenfield will share the consolidated visioning plan and provide updates regarding environmental site conditions electronically by year’s end, with another community meeting to be scheduled for 2025.
