City seeks community input for mission and vision

The Caliente Planning Commission has been very active these last two months. First, the board — consisting of Chairperson Sheryl Johnson, Rick Phillips and Alice Rodowick — has accepted two new members, Britt Laforette and Dana Lee Fruend. 

Johnson said, “The City of Caliente Planning Commission is eager to be supporting the Caliente City Council with the following new projects: updating/redefining the City of Caliente Mission Statement, updating/redefining the City of Caliente Vision Statement, updating/redefining the City of Caliente Core Values and updating the City of Caliente Master Plan. These items are instrumental in city guidance and pursuing future grant opportunities that can enhance the revenue structure of the city.”

Highlights of the September Meeting

The board has taken on the daunting project of updating the 84-page Master Plan document and making it available online.Though there has been some work, it has not been completely updated since 2011.

There was a discussion about how to approach completing the Master Plan, creation of a mission and vision statement, future fees, grants and new business incentives. Councilman Tommy Rowe also suggested the creation of a new city contest allowing the community to participate in the creation of a City of Caliente Mission, Vision and Core Values statement, with a prize incentive of $100. This was agreed upon at the following city council meeting, where Rowe asked each of the councilmen to chip in $20. This was met with smiles and a bit of laughter.
