Darrel David Hansen

November 8, 2024 by Lincoln County Record

Darrel David Hansen, age 89, of Alamo, NV, left this life peacefully on November 4, 2024, surrounded by his loved ones. He was born December 12, 1934, to James Alfred and Jewel Evelyn Schofield Hansen in Hiko, NV. On March 28, 1970 he married Verna Schramm in the Manti Utah LDS Temple.

Darrel was a devoted husband, father, and follower of Christ. As a young man, he served the Lord as a missionary for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Spanish American Mission, serving mainly in Texas and New Mexico. When he retired, he and his wife, Verna, served as missionaries in the Las Vegas Mission and as temple workers in the Las Vegas Temple.

He served his country in the United States Army and was stationed in Germany for two years. Actively engaged in civic duties, Darrel served on several boards in the community. He loved his fellow man and was mindful of those less fortunate than himself, often sacrificing for the welfare of others. Leaving a legacy of service and sacrifice, he touched the lives of many people.

Throughout his life, Darrel’s great love was teaching youth. At Pahranagat Valley High School, he taught English, Spanish, Special Education, Journalism, Typing, Bookkeeping, and drove many miles across the state of Nevada as the bus driver for the sports teams. He also taught early morning seminary. When he retired from teaching high school in Alamo, he worked as the reading specialist for Martin Luther King Elementary in Las Vegas, NV for several years. Always ready and willing to help young people learn how to read, he tutored many children and grandchildren and passed on his love for literature.

Darrel will be remembered for his dedication to God and family, his loyal friendship, and his heart for service.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Verna; their children and spouses: four sons: Russell (Alycia) Hansen, Eric (Cheryl) Hansen, David (Jill) Hansen, and Joseph (Tamara) Hansen; and daughter, Anna Marie (Michael) Pruitt. He was the proud grandfather of 25 grandchildren, and 1 great granddaughter, who brought him immense joy.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, November 9, 2024 at 11 a.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Alamo Chapel. Visitation will be from 9 – 10:30 a.m. prior to services at the chapel. Interment will follow in the Schofield Cemetery.
