NyE Communities Coalition has received funding from the Nevada Office of Traffic Safety for its Car Seat Program.
Goals: NyE Communities Coalition’s project goal is to reduce highway fatalities and serious injuries resulting from individuals riding unrestrained or improperly restrained in motor vehicles on Nevada’s roadways. In the area of Occupant Protection, NyECC’s goal is to reduce the risk of death and serious injury in traffic crashes by increasing the utilization of appropriate vehicle restraint systems. In the area of Child Passenger Safety, NyECC’s goal is to reduce the risk of child death and serious injury in traffic crashes by increasing the number of certified child passenger safety technicians, educating parents and caregivers regarding the importance of proper use and correct installation of child restraints and purchasing and distributing child restraints.
Objectives:
- To recruit and train at least 10 individuals in Nevada to become certified Child Passenger Safety Technicians serving low-income and underserved.
- To educate parents / caregivers in low-income and/or underserved populations concerning all aspects of the use of child restraints and occupant protection by a minimum of 250.
- To increase the number of purchased and distributed child restraints to low-income and/or underserved populations by 280.
- To travel to teach CPST courses, attend Continuing Education trainings and community events.
- To ensure grant funds are expended for the purposes and budget specified herein.
Outcomes:
- Host at least two Child Passenger Safety Technicians Courses in rural Nevada.
- Increase the number of certified Child Passenger Safety Technicians (CPST) by 10 throughout Nevada.
- Educate at least 250 caregivers on the use of how to properly install child safety seats and occupant protection.
- Purchase and distribute at least 280 car seat / booster seats to low-income and/or underserved populations.
- NyE Communities Coalition staff and volunteers will complete Continuing Education.
- Host at least 4 community car seat events in Nye, Lincoln, and/or Esmeralda Counties.
- Participate in at least 2 community car seat events in rural communities not in Nye, Lincoln, and Esmeralda Counties.
- Hold at least 4 Caregiver classes for individuals who received car seat ticket; educate them on proper use and how to install child safety seats.
- We will have at least 100 one-on-one car seat appointments to engage and educate caregivers on the correct installation of child safety seats.
