The Cathedral Gorge Dutch Oven Cook-Off, scheduled for Saturday, May 10, at Cathedral Gorge State Park, invites participants to showcase their Dutch oven cooking skills in four categories: Bread, Main Course (Meat), Vegetable/Side Dish and Dessert.
The cook-off begins at 1 p.m., with 5 p.m. food tastings. To ensure smooth participation, those wishing to compete are encouraged to pre-register online to waive entry fees. Day-of entries will be accepted for a fee of $5 per entry (cash only).
Prizes will be awarded to the top three dishes in each category, with a panel of judges deciding the winners. Additionally, a People’s Choice Award will be given based on votes from event attendees, allowing the public to pick their favorite dish. A raffle will also be held during the tasting period.
This event offers an opportunity for both experienced chefs and newcomers to demonstrate their culinary talent in a fun and friendly competition. Participants can compete individually or in teams, with the option to enter multiple categories.
For public health and safety reasons, pets will not be allowed in the event area during the cook-off. All participants are expected to follow proper hygiene practices, including hand-washing, sanitizing utensils such as cutting boards and mixing bowls, and using disposable spoons for tasting and seasoning adjustments. Finger licking is discouraged.
Participants are responsible for providing their own cooking supplies, including Dutch ovens and ingredients, while charcoal will be provided. Early starters may need to bring their own charcoal. Each entry must include a sign listing the dish name and ingredients, along with a recipe copy for the tasters.
