The summer season has begun, and it’s a great time to start thinking about entries for the Lincoln County Fair! Do your uncle, grandmother or niece grow the best squash, tomatoes or artichokes on your block? Is there a painting, quilt, leatherwork or 3-D printer project that you’ve just about completed? There’s still time to finish up those great projects so that you can bring them to the fair Aug. 6-9.
Community fairs have roots going back millennia, and barter and trade are still part of living at the rural end of modern supply-chains. It takes commitment, dedication and hard work to grow a garden or share a craft, food or artisan passion or pastime with others.
The Lincoln County Fair reserves tables for community entries, and although there are always lots of great 4-H entries, the fair has an entry category that fits everyone! In recent years the 4-H entries have been moved onto the community tables, when community entries may have been fewer. Fear not! There is plenty of space. You can enter as a professional or an amateur. Young or wise, whether it’s your first jar of dilly beans or your thousandth, come and share a glimpse of what makes your world a bit more special.
Everyone’s work is anonymously judged on its merits. Names are only displayed after a category is judged. Everyone who brings an entry contributes to the success of a fair. And don’t forget to take a break from watching the rodeo to check out all of the great entries!
