The sound of modified ride-along lawn mowers filled the air at Pioche’s rodeo arena on Saturday, May 31, during Memorial Day Weekend.

Contestants race lawn mowers around Pioche’s Rodeo Arena on May 24, 2025.
Dozens of racers came to participate in the Alamo Club lawn mower races, giving a large crowd one heck of a show. Spectators and vehicles lined the arena fencing to get the best view of all the action. Alamo Club and Liquor outlet owner and race promoter Shannon Spendlove organizes the lawn mower races for Labor Day Weekend. She noted that participants are always asking for another weekend of racing in Pioche, and this year she gave them just that. The weekend’s notable winners were Mike Kerekes, who won the stock class, and Robbie Hansen, who took the victory in the highly competitive modified class. The races concluded with a “Last Man Standing Race” where Hansen also took the win.
The spills, thrills and intense action are something to see. The lawn mower races will be returning Labor Day Weekend in Pioche.
