Sean FitzSimons is stepping away from Lincoln County High School for a position at the Nevada Interscholastic Activities Association.
Lincoln County High School has had many talented coaches come and go, but over the past few years the main man when it came to Lynx sports has been Sean FitzSimons. As athletic director and boys basketball coach, he has led the teams through victories and defeats, and while being an AD is a challenging job, “Fitz” has kept the athletic programs of LCHS running smoothly for longer than most who have held the position.
However, FitzSimons has decided to leave LCHS to join the staff at the Nevada Interscholastic Activities Association (NIAA). As an assistant executive director, he will be a major part of the decisions that affect the athletes of not only Lincoln County but the entire Silver State.
In his letter of resignation, FitzSimons mentions a few members of the community and staff at LCHS who have been important in his development as a leader and coach, specifically thanking Marty Soderborg and Sharon Dirks. Talking about his time at LCHS, he remarked, “Serving this school and community has been a meaningful chapter in my life. I’ve poured time, energy and passion into every role I’ve held here. I’ve coached with pride, led with intent and taught with the hope of making a difference. While there were challenges — as there always are — I leave knowing I gave it everything I had.”
He went on to clarify that this decision was one made out of a desire to grow and learn, and not one made out of frustration or regret, as he views his time with the district as an irreplaceable experience. As for his replacement, there has been no word out of the district office, but as the new school year approaches, it’s only a matter of time until someone is selected to fill the boots left behind by the one and only Fitz.
