A crowd gathered to Rose Park on the evening of July 15. From 8 to 10 p.m. for the second installment of “Music in the Parks.” Community members enjoyed music, dancing and connection.
The summer event series is hosted by NyE Communities Coalition to provide substance-free fun and foster healthier social options. At the most recent gathering, coalition staff led attendees through line-dancing steps, offering a beginner-friendly way to get moving under the stars.
The initiative began in June and is being held every month on the third Tuesday. Music in the Park will be continuing through the warmer months as weather allows. Though the event is geared toward adults, families are welcome to join in or simply enjoy the music. Participation in dancing is optional.
“The goal is to help remove the barrier of thinking there is nothing to do,” said coalition staff member Crystal Dineley. “We are offering an engaging, positive evening activity and these events are particularly important for individuals in recovery, or anyone looking for a way to spend summer nights away from substances.”
Dineley says she and other organizers hope to keep the momentum going and encourage more community members to come out, enjoy the music and interact.
