Richard Joseph Livreri

July 18, 2025 by Lincoln County Record

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Richard Joseph Livreri, who died peacefully June 8, 2025, at the age of 82, surrounded by the love of his family after a courageous battle with illness.

Richard was born June 1, 1943, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, to Anthony Edward and Dorothy Elizabeth Livreri. At the age of three, he and his mom arrived in Nevada by train to join his father—a journey that would mark the beginning of a deep and lasting connection to the Silver State. His early childhood was spent in the small railroad stops of Acton, Byron, and Carp, where he and his siblings attended a one-room schoolhouse and learned to navigate a rugged yet meaningful life without electricity or indoor plumbing. In 1956, the family settled in Caliente, Nevada, a town Richard would proudly call home for the rest of his life.

Even as a young boy, Richard was industrious and responsible. He worked at Alan’s Grocery Store, the local movie theater, and for Emery Conway’s ranch. He was known for being helpful to his mother, especially during the holidays, and was said to have a strong bond with a horse he once owned.

Richard was a 1961 graduate of Lincoln County High School. In 1963, Richard began working for the U.S. Bureau of Land Management, a career that would span over five decades. In 1967, he paused his civilian service to enlist in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He served his country with honor and distinction, earning numerous awards and commendations, including the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with two Bronze Stars, Vietnam Campaign Medal with Device 1960, Combat Infantryman Badge (1st Award), two Overseas Bars, and the Army Commendation Medal for Heroism—awarded for his courageous actions in identifying and alerting his unit to an enemy ambush on October 1, 1967. He also qualified as a Sharpshooter with the M14 and an Expert with both the M16 and M60 rifles.

Following his honorable discharge, Richard returned to Las Vegas and resumed his service with the BLM, ultimately retiring after more than 50 years. His contributions to the Las Vegas, Caliente, and Pahrump Field Offices were substantial, and in recognition of his tireless work, an American flag was flown over the Nevada Test and Training Range in his honor.

He also served as a Reserve Police Officer with the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, further demonstrating his steadfast dedication to public service and his strong sense of integrity.

Richard’s deep love of family extended through every season of his life. He married Shanadean (Shanny) Hammond of Eagle Valley, Nevada in April of 1970 and together they built a life grounded in love, resilience, and shared values. Throughout the years, Richard, Shanadean and their girls would frequently return to Eagle Valley to help her parents, Harold and Shine Hammond, on the family ranch. These visits became treasured times of hard work, laughter, and countless family picnics, often filled with food, stories, and unforgettable memories. In more recent years, Richard and Shanadean spent considerable time at the Eagle Valley house, where Richard enjoyed working outdoors—building sheds, completing projects with his tractor, and immersing himself in the land he had grown to love like his own.

Richard was also an avid outdoorsman who found joy in hunting, fishing, and woodworking, often retreating to the hills and valleys of Lincoln County to connect with nature and his roots.

Yet, his greatest joy came from being a husband, father, grandfather, and friend. Known affectionately as “Grandpa Richard,” he was a fixture at his granddaughters’ softball games—from youth leagues to college championships. He quickly became part of the extended softball family, offering support, humor, and heartfelt encouragement to players and families alike. His pride in all 4 of his grandchildren was unmatched, and he found deep fulfillment in being present for all of their milestones.

Richard is survived by his devoted wife of over 50 years, Shanadean Hammond Livreri; loving daughters, Lori Henricksen (Andy) and Michele Livreri; cherished granddaughters: Brittany Henricksen, Breanne Henricksen, Bryce Henricksen, and Samaiya Montgomery, who held a very special place in his heart; and grandson, Dusty Rebel Deluna. He is also survived by his sister, Ginger Flores (Ben), and brother, David Livreri (Mavis), as well as many beloved nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.

He was preceded in death by his brothers, Michael Livreri (Kristie) and Albert Livreri (Patty Long).

Funeral services were held Saturday, June 14, 2025, at the LDS Chapel at 5160 W. Lone Mountain Road in Las Vegas, with a family prayer at 9:30 AM and public service at 10:00 AM.

Richard was laid to rest later that day at the Hammond Family Cemetery in Eagle Valley, a place rich with personal and generational meaning.

Richard Joseph Livreri was a man of unwavering loyalty, deep patriotism, gentle strength, and quiet service. His life’s work—whether in uniform, behind a desk, on a tractor, or from the bleachers—was to show up, help out, and love hard. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who had the honor of knowing him.
