A friendly competition is rolling back into Caliente this fall. The Shamrock Pub will host its second annual adult-only Pinewood Derby race Sept. 28. The “King of the Street” event begins at 4 p.m. and is open to anyone 21 and older.
Participants can enter a derby car for a $5 fee. The entry money will be divided between two categories for fastest car and best design. Racers may either bring a car they’ve previously built or create one specifically for this event. All entries must weigh no more than five ounces, include four wheels and be gravity-powered.
Unlike traditional youth derbies, this adult version encourages those 21 and older to join in. Spectators are welcome to attend, cheer on their favorite builds and enjoy the atmosphere. Organizers noted that while previously raced cars are allowed to compete again, any car that has already won a race this year will not be eligible to collect prize money. Anyone with questions or interest in entering is encouraged to contact Chrissy at The Shamrock by calling (775) 726-3385.
