Three Maloy siblings were warmly welcomed home to Pahranagat Valley High School on Wednesday, Sept. 24 for a school assembly.
Visiting were Celeste Maloy, U.S. representative for Utah, her sister Lucia Maloy, general counsel for Southern Utah University, and their younger brother Terence Maloy, who has built an extensive career as a welder and entrepreneur. They grew up in Hiko, where their parents, Ed and Cass Maloy, still reside.

The Maloys were entertaining and relatable as they shared advice about what has helped them be successful. Celeste shared several examples from her college days and career about the importance of treating everyone kindly and creating positive relationships with those around you, noting that those things will come back to you in a positive way. She shared that it’s important to be smart and work hard, but you’ve got to have good relationships with people to get your foot in the door. Lucia also shared personal experiences from her career and added that by helping others around you succeed, you also succeed.
Terence shared his experience with high school, saying he was able to be successful when he was encouraged to be creative in shop class. He said the things he did in shop class, specifically with welding, helped him understand other subjects in school.
Before answering questions from the students, the Maloys concluded by encouraging the kids in regards to their careers. They told them they could do anything; they just had to be brave enough to try, humble enough to ask questions and willing to encourage each other. Celeste told the kids that even if they are from a very small town, that doesn’t mean they can’t do great things. She explained that everywhere she goes, she meets someone who is either from the valley or knows someone from the valley. She urged the kids to go out and keep the valley’s reputation strong.
