The Caliente Heritage Boxcar Museum is set to offer a spooky and historical event for the community with its upcoming “Night at the Museum.” The family-friendly, Halloween-themed open house is scheduled for Thursday, October 30, from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
This free event, held at the museum located next to the historic Union Pacific Depot, invites guests of all ages to explore local history with a festive twist. Attendees can enjoy tours of the Boxcar and Caboose, participate in a scavenger hunt with prizes and enjoy light refreshments amidst a display of holiday lights.
The volunteer-coordinated museum provides a unique glimpse into the area’s rich past. Inside, visitors can discover exhibits on Caliente family histories, see a working telegraph machine, and view a collection of vintage railroad and mining phones.
The museum is a treasure trove of Union Pacific memorabilia, featuring a conductor’s uniform, numerous historical railroad lanterns of varying sizes, and a variety of large manual tools once used to maintain the rails. A highlight of the collection is the display of the original 1923 blueprints for the Caliente depot, a Mission Revival Style masterpiece created by renowned Los Angeles architects John and Donald Parkinson.
