Panthers volleyball knocks out Sandy Valley in straight sets

The Sandy Valley Sidewinders threatened the Pahranagat Valley straight-set win streak, but the Panthers prevailed 3-0 at home on Friday, Oct. 10 during Homecoming. They extended their win streak to 11 and won their eighth consecutive match in straight sets. They made it interesting, though.

The Sidewinders dropped sets one and three, 25-5 and 25-4, respectively, but they nearly upset the Panthers in set two, falling 25-19. PVHS head coach Milly Walch said it was “so strange” and that the team simply lost focus in the second set.

“We talked about it, and I warned them, but that’s exactly what happened. We missed serves, let balls drop and stopped talking,” she said. Walch called two early timeouts to try and regain control of the match, and the Panthers managed to make enough plays to regain the momentum.

“[I]t wasn’t pretty. Good for them, though, to remember to always play our game,” Walch said. “Sad we only have three games left, but it’s been a great season, and we’re still improving every day.” 

The Panthers (14-6, 10-0) host Laughlin (6-6, 4-4) at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 15, in their final home match of the regular season. The team travels to Liberty Baptist on Oct. 21 and Round Mountain on the 24th.
