Lynx football rolls LMCA

The Lincoln County High School football team jumped out to a 26-7 halftime lead to rout Lake Mead Christian Academy 51-28 on Friday, Oct. 17.

The Lynx rushed for 339 yards, with sophomore Mason Sinay carrying the ball 19 times for 171 yards and two touchdowns. Junior quarterback Kavon Almaraz was the second-leading rusher with 118 yards on 20 carries. 

Almaraz scored three rushing touchdowns and threw one more, completing eight of 12 passes for 93 yards. He did throw an interception and lost a fumble but also led the defense with five tackles and two tackles for loss. Junior Ryder Stoker was Almaraz’s favorite target, connecting on four passes for 74 yards and a touchdown.

“We ran and threw very efficiently. We need to clean up our turnovers—two lost fumbles and one interception,” LCHS head coach Kevin Hannig said. “One blown coverage led to a touchdown for Mead. Their other two offensive touchdowns were just very well-executed throw-and-catches. They scored one defensive touchdown on a scoop-and-score fumble.”

Sinay forced a fumble that freshman Braydon Miller recovered, and the Lynx were perpetually in the Eagles’ backfield. The team combined for eight tackles for loss on the night. Hannig said Miller “stepped up” with sophomore Daxton Donohue nursing a shoulder injury. He rushed three times for 22 yards and two touchdowns.

The Lynx (5-2, 2-1) host White Pine (2-5, 1-2) at 7 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 24. A Lynx win would secure the two seed in the 2A State Playoffs, which would ensure a home playoff game.
