Lincoln County is kicking off the Christmas season with a full lineup of celebrations, concerts and family activities stretching from late November through mid-December. Communities across the valley can enjoy crafts, music, refreshments and longtime traditions.
The festivities begin on Nov. 28 at 9 a.m. with Pioche’s annual Christmas Bazaar at Pioche Town Hall. The event continues until 4 p.m. with local sellers offering handmade goods, holiday decor and treats.
Alamo will host a community-centered Holiday Swap and Sell on Sat., Nov. 29, from 1 to 3 p.m. at the church ball field. Families are invited to bring new, used or gently used items to share, swap or sell, including clothing, shoes, toys, Christmas outfits and household goods. Attendees can set up their own tables, blankets or bins and browse for affordable holiday items without any fees or formal hosts. Organizers share that the goal of the gathering is to help neighbors prepare for the season without added financial pressure and to offer a space where every household can find something meaningful for the holidays.
Kershaw-Ryan State Park will host an Activi-Tea Sunset Hike Nov. 29. Starting at 3:15 p.m., participants will meet at the koi pond, before walking the Canyon Overlook Trail. Hot cocoa and tea will be provided, and hikers are encouraged to bring their own mug. The route is a 2.5-mile round trip with mild grades and several switchbacks.
Pioche will hold its yearly Christmas tree lighting on Mon., Dec. 1, at Heritage Park. The gathering begins at 6 p.m., marking the town’s official welcome to the holiday period.
Join the Alamo Town Board as they light Christmas Card Lane at 7 p.m. on Dec. 1. The event will take place at the Alamo Children’s Park and will include doughnuts and hot chocolate for attendees.
Caliente’s Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints will present a Live Nativity and Christmas Crèche on Front Street on Wednesday, Dec. 3. From 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., families can walk through a display of nativity sets, listen to storytelling and enjoy cookies and hot chocolate near the fire.
Thu., Dec. 4, brings two different gatherings. The LCHS Career Association will host a family movie evening featuring “Elf” from 7 to 9 p.m. in the Lynx Lair. Snacks, coloring pages, a cornhole setup and a simple ornament craft will be available. A gift basket raffle will also take place. Also on Dec. 4, country artist Sam Riggs will appear at Thompson’s Opera House in Pioche. Tickets are available through 80 Entertainment, the group known for bringing well-known performers to Lincoln County throughout the year.
On Fri., Dec. 5, Dance Dynamics will present its Nutcracker performance at the Neldon C. Mathews Center at 6:30 p.m. Youth dancers will showcase traditional ballet pieces in both group and solo routines.
Panaca will hold its Christmas Tree Lighting on Sat., Dec. 6, at 6 p.m. Families can enjoy hot cocoa, view handmade ornaments created by students and enjoy community caroling. Also on Dec. 6, Santa will return for the final Santa Saturday at Fruend’s Tea House Inn. Sessions run from 1 to 4 p.m. Digital photos are $20, with optional $5 Christmas card add-ons. The Caliente Beautification Committee will then present Cookies and Cocoa with Santa at 5 p.m. on Dec. 6 at the Caliente Depot. Complimentary photos with Santa by Dana Fruend Photography will be available along with cocoa, cookies and community singing.
The annual Community Christmas Carol Sing will take place at 6 p.m. in St. Joseph Catholic Hall on Monday, Dec. 8. Residents are invited to join church groups from across Caliente in classic holiday songs.
The LCHS Performing Arts Department will host its winter band concert on Wednesday, Dec. 10. Holiday pieces will be performed by elementary, middle and high school students.
The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office will hold its yearly Tip-A-Cop fundraiser on Thu., Dec. 11, from 4 to 5 p.m. at the Side Track Restaurant in Caliente. All tips collected during the event will support the Cops 4 Kids program.
Kershaw-Ryan State Park will present its Winter Wonderland celebration on Sat., Dec. 13. Families may visit anytime between 5 and 8 p.m. at the day-use area. Dutch oven cobbler will be served at 6 p.m. followed by hot chocolate, cookies, ornament decorating, and a special visitor is scheduled at 6:30 p.m.
Bella Voce, now directed by Leslie Allen, will continue their annual holiday concerts on Dec. 12 and 13. Performances will close with a community rendition of the “Hallelujah Chorus,” with the audience invited to join in.
The LCHS Choir Concert will take place on Mon., Dec. 15. The evening will include a selection of seasonal music from the fifth grade and mixed choirs, along with a performance by the LCHS show choir.
