On YouTube there has been some chatter about Congress and President Trump sending out $2,000 stimulus checks. The President seems committed to getting it done. While I could easily spend the money (there’s a whole list of Christmas items the kids want), it would be better not to cut the checks.
Here’s why: Every year our government spends more than it brings in. “The budget typically contains more spending than revenue, the difference adding to the federal debt each year.”
Sure, we could spend $2,000 on Christmas gifts for the kids this year. But the kids will grow up. The kids will eventually become taxpayers. The kids will be responsible for paying it back. That sounds about as absurd as opening credit cards in the kids’ names to buy their Christmas toys, then hoping the kids can pay the debt.
So, Mr. President, instead of bribing the taxpayers now, let us use that money to pay down the national debt, and buy the kids a little freedom for the future.
