Lady Lynx wrestlers get wins at Utah Winter Classic

The Lincoln County High School girls wrestling team performed admirably at the Utah Winter Classic in Richfield, Jan. 2-3. Sofi Lafaele led the team with a 5-3 record and 29 team points to place sixth in her 145-pound weight class. Lafaele had three pinfall victories, including one that came 35 seconds into the match. 

Loeyn Biegel scored 25 team points and went 3-2 to finish seventh at 125 pounds. She had two pinfall victories and a 15-0 technical fall victory.

Dani Petersen, wrestling at 120 pounds, went 4-4 and scored eight points for her team. Three of her victories came via pinfall, and her four wins were good enough for 12th place. 

Also finishing 12th at 130 pounds was Emma Cole, who went 3-3 with eight team points. She wrestled an exciting match against Josey Hanson of Delta, scoring a pinfall victory with 10 seconds remaining in regulation. She trailed on points 12-9 at the time. 

Also getting victories for the Lady Lynx were Natalie McRory (3-5), Saleena D’Angelo (2-5), Lizzy Kirchefer (1-4), Nash Ochoa (1-5) and Keslee Leeds (1-6).

As for the boys, Jackson Free finished ninth at 132 pounds, going 4-1 with three pinfall victories. He trailed on points in each match before winning via pinfall in regulation.
