With two victories on the road to conclude the regular season, the Lincoln County High School girls basketball team earned the second seed and a first-round bye in the Southern 2A Regional Playoffs.
On Friday, Feb. 6, the Lynx jumped out to a 15-4 first-quarter lead at Water Canyon and ran away from the Wildcats with a 17-5 fourth-quarter scoring advantage to win 53-33.
LCHS senior Remington Lytle led the Lynx with 15 points, canning three 3-pointers and all four of her free throws. Classmate Bailee Cole added 10 points, and junior Rylee Heiselbetz added eight.
The next day at Founders Classical Academy, the Lynx routed the Centurions 66-4, with Cole scoring 16 points and junior Sophie Donohue adding 15. Nine Lynx players scored in the game, as Lincoln County starters got plenty of rest. They’ll get even more rest thanks to a first-round bye in the playoffs.
LCHS head coach Duane Wadsworth expected White Pine to defeat Lake Mead Christian Academy on Tuesday, Feb. 10, and that’s exactly what happened, as the Ladycats rolled to a 45-19 win. As a result, the Lynx will play the Ladycats in the regional semifinals at Faith Lutheran High School on Friday, Feb. 13 at 3:30 p.m. The Lynx beat the Ladycats at home, 59-37, and at WPHS, 48-25, so a trip to state is well within reach for the Lynx.
