Lincoln County High School junior Kelsea Markarian took 11th with a personal best long jump of 15 feet, 7.5 inches at the Dave Butler Memorial Meet in Las Vegas on Saturday, March 7. Markarian also finished 18th in a field of 60 in the 200 meters.

“Kelsea Markarian is now ranked first in the 100, 200, 400 and long jump after this weekend’s racing,” informed LCHS head coach Cameron Frehner. “We are also set up on the girls’ side as the top four girls in the 800 and 1,600 currently in the south.”

Another top finisher for the Lady Lynx was junior Sadie Ivins, who finished 13th in the 3,200-meter race. Senior Camille Lamb was 17th in the same race. Fellow senior Tatelyn Perkins had a personal best high jump of 4.5 feet, which was good for 19th place. Junior Emma Bleak also had a personal best triple jump of 26 feet, 10 inches to finish 20th.

The top finisher for the boys was junior William Pike, who cleared 12.5 feet in the pole vault to take 10th. It was a personal best vault for Pike, who also took 15th in the 1,600 meters and 20th in the 800 meters. Sophomore Daxton Donohue took 16th in the high jump, and senior Benson Bleak was 25th in the mile. 

The newcomer heat of the mile race was where Lincoln County made waves, though. Freshmen Bradley Pike and Mason Lamb both ran personal best times, finishing second and 10th, respectively. Pike’s 4:55.6 would have been a meet record had he finished first. Regardless, it’s evident the Lynx have some real speed developing really fast.

The Lincoln County track and field teams head to Virgin Valley for the Ken Jensen Invitational at 2:30 p.m. on Friday, March 13.
