As the nation looks ahead to 2026 and the 250th anniversary of the Fourth of July, the local Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7114 in Caliente is inviting community members to take part in the celebration in a creative way.
The VFW is hosting a “250th 4th of July” Button Design Contest, encouraging participants to create a patriotic design that reflects American pride, history and the spirit of Independence Day. Winning designs will also be turned into buttons as part of a larger VFW fundraiser and community raffle.
Cash prizes will be awarded to the top three entries, with first place receiving $100, second place $50 and third place $25. Those interested in participating can pick up entry sheets at several local businesses, including Panaca Market, Meadow Valley Market, Alamo Club in Pioche, Knotty Pine or Jerry’s Sinclair in Caliente.
Participants may also submit a three-inch circular design by mail or email. Entries can be mailed to VFW Post 7114, P.O. Box 415, Caliente, NV 89008, or emailed to post7114qm@vfwnv.com. All submissions must include the participant’s name, phone number and town of residence. The design must reference both the 250th celebration and VFW Post 7114. The deadline to enter is April 16, with judging scheduled for April 17. Organizers hope the contest will bring the community together while honoring a significant milestone in American history. Residents of all ages are encouraged to participate and help celebrate the nation’s 250th birthday through art.
