Lincoln County High School senior Benson Bleak, junior Emma Bleak and sophomore Kensley Bleak led the Lynx track and field teams at the Sam Germany Invitational on Saturday, March 28.

Emma won the pole vault with a seven-foot vault, with classmate Brinley Chavez coming in third. Chavez also posted a personal best in the 800 meters (3:12.62), as did freshman Kylee Graf (3:02.31). Graf also had a personal best time in the mile of 6:42.57 — good for 12th place. Emma was also second in the 800 meters, with Kensley taking first, in what was a fun race for the Lynx.

“Emma has been doing great in the pole vault all year and her winning that was no surprise to us at the meet, but what was a great shocker to us was her in the 800,” informed LCHS head coach Cameron Frehner. “We knew Kensley was stronger in that race, so the plan from the start was Emma sitting behind Kensley for as long as possible and just trying to hold on during the 800. The race went out a little slower than we wanted to, so Kensley had to do most of the hard work, making sure they both got across the line at a decent time, meaning from halfway through the first lap our girls had the lead — one and two — for the rest of the race. Usually not a great racing strategy, but for us this weekend it worked out and we managed to pull out a great 1-2 finish against quite a few 3A and 4A girls teams.”

Kensley was also fifth in the mile with a season-best time of 6:10.63. She was 14th in the 200 meters with a time of 28.82 seconds. 

For the boys, Benson Bleak ran a personal best 4:45.58 in the 1,600 meters to take third place. Junior William Pike was right behind him in fourth, and behind him was freshman Bradley Pike in fifth. Fellow freshman Mason Lamb was eighth in the event.

William Pike was also third in the 800-meter race, followed by Benson in sixth. Bradley was 10th in the event, and classmate Thomas Zierow ran a personal best 2:37.19 in the 800 meters. Zierow also had a personal best of 1:06.31 in the 400 meters to finish 34th. Junior Kason Goff had a personal best 13.1-second 100-meter dash.

The Lynx track and field teams visit Shadow Ridge High School at 8 a.m. on Saturday, April 4 for the 5th Annual Red Rock Running Invitational.
