The Lincoln County High School softball team got its first league win of the season at Needles (Cali.) on Friday, March 27. The Lynx plated three runs in both the third and fifth innings to head home with a 6-3 victory in game two of the doubleheader against the Mustangs.

Junior Brylie Somers was dominant in the circle, pitching a complete game and allowing just two earned runs on seven hits and one walk. She also went 2-for-3 at the dish with a double and an RBI. Senior Cadence Long was also 2-for-3 with a double, an RBI and two runs scored. 

Juniors Gabriella Holt and Lakyla Kulani both had two hits, and Kulani scored two runs to Holt’s one. Senior BaiLee Cole drove in two runs with a hit as well.

LCHS head coach Kylea Lytle said it was “just the hill we needed to get over,” given the Lynx had a chance to sweep of Needles. In game one, they led 4-2 going into the bottom of the sixth inning when fielding errors allowed five Mustangs to score to take a 7-4 lead.

“[W]e had them the first game as well — until we didn’t. Needles is always tough and always coached well. They will always find a way to capitalize on an error, safe play or indecisiveness,” explained Coach Lytle. “The girls bounced back, though. They played loose, they had fun and that has been a season goal to just play loose. No playing scared. Proud of the girls.”

Senior Remington Lytle allowed just 10 baserunners and two earned runs over six innings pitched. Somers once again had two hits, including a double, and she scored twice. Long also laced a double to drive in two runs. Holt and Kulani both had two hits, and Kulani scored a run.

The Lady Lynx (7-8, 1-1) play at Beaver at 3:30 p.m. before continuing with league games against Lake Mead (2-5) in Panaca at noon and 2 p.m. on Tuesday, April 7.
