Law Day ceremony held in Panaca

As part of Nevada’s Law Day observances, a special ceremony was held Thursday, April 30, at the Neldon C. Mathews Auditorium in Panaca.

Judge Dylan Frehner traveled from Ely to host the event, which welcomed Lincoln County High School juniors and seniors for an opportunity to learn more about the legal profession and the role of law in society.

Prior to the ceremony, students and guests participated in a school tour and an informal luncheon hosted at the high school. A taco bar lunch was served while attorneys visited with school staff.

District Attorney Franklin Katschke, along with local attorneys Wayne Klomp and Krystallin Hernandez, was joined by Kirk Walker, who traveled from Las Vegas for the event. Each took time to speak with students about why they chose careers in law and the experiences that led them into the legal profession.

Law Day is recognized nationally each year on May 1 and is intended to celebrate the rule of law and encourage greater public understanding of the American legal system. The 2026 national Law Day theme, selected by the American Bar Association, was “The Rule of Law and the American Dream,” focusing on the importance of equal justice and civic responsibility.

Nevada attorneys participated in ceremonies throughout the state during the week leading up to May 1, reaffirming their attorney oaths and commitment to justice, civility and public service.
