In its fifth game against Round Mountain in 15 days, the Pahranagat Valley High School softball team lost the first of those five games, 13-10, as the Knights eliminated the Lady Panthers from the 1A State Softball Playoffs on Friday, May 15.
Pyramid Lake put the Panthers in the losers’ bracket on Thursday, with a 10-5 win in which all 10 Laker runs were unearned. Junior Evie Davis allowed just five hits and one walk while striking out six.
“The northern teams were definitely playing well, and we didn’t bring our ‘A’ game,” said PVHS head coach Mike Sparrow.
Pahranagat Valley managed just four hits, with senior Cami Cannon collecting two of them, including a double. She also scored a run. Classmate Alivia Walch also doubled. Freshman Reagan Shumway drove in a run with a single.
“I truly enjoyed the time spent coaching this current group of seniors. They worked hard and are as quality as they come,” Sparrow said. As for next year, “As a team we will certainly be young, but plan on being very much in the mix of postseason play next season.”
The Lady Panthers lose Walch, Cannon, Shada Spencer, Hayden Canning, Lynda Hatch, Heidi Shumway, Paisley McVey and Samantha Matthews to graduation.
