June 3, 2026 by Jessica Hernandez-McCabe

Anglers of all ages gathered at Eagle Valley Reservoir on May 30 for the 2026 Eagle Valley Resort Fishing Derby, with 85 participants taking part in a day filled with fishing, food, prizes and family fun.

Participants spent the day competing in trout and bass divisions while enjoying favorable weather and steady fishing conditions at the reservoir.

Eagle Valley Resort played host to annual fishing derby.

In the trout division, Madison Williams claimed first place with a trout weighing 1.03 pounds and measuring 13½ inches. Justin Keith earned second place with a trout weighing .73 pounds and measuring 13½ inches.

The bass division was led by Eddie Hendrich, whose winning fish weighed 2.29 pounds and measured 17⅜ inches. Chase Curtis placed second with a bass weighing 1.67 pounds and measuring 15 inches.

In addition to the fishing competition, participants enjoyed raffle prizes, a community barbecue and a special appearance by Pat the Eagle. Families and friends gathered throughout the day, creating an atmosphere of friendly competition and community fellowship.

Event organizers credited the success of the derby to a large team of volunteers and Eagle Valley Resort employees who assisted with registration, weigh-ins, food service, organization and cleanup. Volunteers recognized by the resort included Dean Keith, Mary Etcher, Elizabeth McMaster, Michelle Cox, Jim Cox, Joanne Garboski, Pete Garboski, Velda Herdt, Jimmy and Cyril, and Tom and Kristy Smith Cotrell.

Organizers expressed appreciation to everyone who participated, volunteered and supported the event, noting that this year’s derby was one of the most successful in recent memory.

With another successful event in the books, Eagle Valley Resort officials say they are already looking forward to welcoming anglers back for next year’s fishing derby.
