VFW Post 7114 has announced the winners of its America 250 Button Design Contest, a community competition that invited residents to help create a commemorative button celebrating both America’s upcoming 250th birthday and the local veterans organization. Commemorative America 250 buttons are now available for purchase for $5 each, with proceeds benefiting the VFW Cemetery Fund.

Winning designs from VFW Post 7114’s America 250 Button Design Contest are shown. Dana Fruend placed first, Doran Cooper second, Kelly Reeves third, and Bob Beam received an honorary mention.
Community members were asked to submit original three-inch button designs reflecting American pride, history, the spirit of Independence Day and VFW Post 7114. The winning designs were selected earlier this spring and have now been transformed into collectible buttons available throughout Lincoln County.
Dana Fruend earned first place and a $100 cash prize for her patriotic design, which was selected as the official America 250 commemorative button. Fruend’s artwork features imagery celebrating the nation’s 250th anniversary while recognizing VFW Post 7114 and the community’s role in the historic milestone.
Second place was awarded to Doran Cooper, who received a $50 cash prize. Kelly Reeves earned third place and a $25 cash prize for her design entry. Organizers also recognized Bob Beam with an honorary mention for his contribution to the contest and his America 250-themed design.
The contest was created as a way to involve community members in Lincoln County’s celebration of America’s 250th birthday while supporting local veterans programs. Winning designs were incorporated into a larger fundraiser and community raffle organized by VFW Post 7114.
Buttons can be purchased at several locations throughout Lincoln County. In Pioche, buttons are available at Meadow Valley Market, Silver Cafe, the Alamo Club and the Overland Hotel. In Panaca, buttons are available at Panaca Market. In Caliente, buttons are available at VFW Post 7114, Jerry’s Sinclair, Knotty Pine, Side Track Restaurant, Shamrock Pub & Grill and Great Basin Foods.
VFW representatives encourage residents to purchase a button, support the cemetery fund and join in commemorating the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence.
