Caliente Council confirms new City Clerk, prepares for Visitor Center opening

The Caliente City Council held its regular meeting June 4, approving several operational items while welcoming a new city clerk and continuing preparations for the upcoming opening of the Caliente Community and Visitor Center.

One of the evening’s first actions was the appointment and swearing-in of Stephanie Frank as Caliente’s new city clerk. Mayor Steve Rowe administered the oath of office as the council meeting began.

Frank has served as deputy clerk under City Clerk Brenda Northup and said she looks forward to taking on the additional responsibilities of the position. Council members expressed confidence in the transition and thanked Frank for her work serving the city and willingness to take on the position.

City staff also recognized Customer Service Clerk Hannah Lytle, who recently completed her first month handling utility billing responsibilities. During the city clerk’s report, Frank noted that Lytle has adapted quickly to the position and has integrated seamlessly into city operations.

In other business, council members approved a business license for Bronzed Babe, LLC and renewed a business license for High Desert Cleaning Company.

Several items related to the Caliente Community and Visitor Center were approved. Council members adopted the facility’s privacy and information security statement, acceptable use policy and facility use and shared-use agreements. The approvals are part of the city’s ongoing preparations for the June 15 official opening of the visitor center, housed at the historic Caliente Depot.

Reports presented during the meeting highlighted continued activity throughout city departments. The city swimming pool officially opened for the season June 4. Staff reported that the depot HVAC system is now operational, flood mitigation grant work has been completed and the city’s fiscal year 2027 budget has been submitted to the Nevada Department of Taxation.

Public Works Updates were provided by new Public Works Manager Justin Brackenbury. Brackenbury noted several infrastructure projects, including ongoing work on city wells, sewer treatment facilities, park maintenance, street improvements and utility systems. Staff reported progress on water system upgrades and noted that preparations continue for several planned infrastructure projects throughout the city.

Lincoln County Power District General Manager Dane Bradfield also provided a brief update to the council regarding regional power conditions and long-term planning efforts. Bradfield discussed ongoing monitoring of power supplies associated with Hoover Dam and the Colorado River system, while assuring council members that the district continues planning for future energy needs through diversification and long-term purchasing strategies.
