Lincoln County first responders answer 267 calls during two-week reporting period

June 22, 2026 by Denise Houston

First responders across Lincoln County handled a total of 267 calls for service between June 8 and June 21, demonstrating the broad scope of responsibilities carried out by local emergency personnel. These calls encompassed a wide variety of incidents, including criminal investigations, medical emergencies, traffic accidents and search and rescue operations. The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office responded to the majority of these calls, accounting for 255, while the Pahranagat Valley Volunteer Fire District PVVFD handled the remaining 12 calls during the two-week period.

During the first week, from June 8 through June 14, sheriff’s deputies responded to 128 calls for service. Among the more notable incidents were the execution of two search warrants. One warrant, carried out in Panaca, resulted in two arrests related to narcotics offenses, highlighting ongoing efforts to address drug-related activity in the area. The second warrant, executed in Pioche, did not result in any arrests but was part of continued investigative work.

Deputies also responded to a serious incident involving a stabbing connected to a missing juvenile from the Caliente Youth Center. The juvenile was later located and taken into custody.

Additionally, deputies handled several wildlife-related vehicle collisions, which are common in the region due to its rural nature, though fortunately none resulted in injuries. Other calls included assisting a stranded motorist in a remote location and responding to a domestic disturbance in Alamo.

In the second week, from June 15 through June 21, deputies handled 127 calls. This period included a variety of incidents such as an arrest made on a bench warrant, an assault report and multiple animal-related calls, including dog bite incidents. Wildlife collisions continued to be a recurring issue, involving animals such as deer, antelope and livestock, though injuries remained minor. A particularly serious incident occurred in Alamo, where a medical emergency resulted in a fatality and was subsequently investigated as a coroner’s case. Deputies also responded to reports of property damage at the GEM Theater and assisted at the scene of a semi-truck rollover that resulted in minor injuries.

The PVVFD responded to five calls during the first week, all of which were medical emergencies. These incidents often took place in remote areas, requiring extended response times and coordination with regional medical facilities. Emergency personnel provided treatment and transportation for several patients, while others declined further medical care after being assessed on scene.

During the second week, PVVFD handled seven calls, which included a mix of medical emergencies, vehicle accidents and a search and rescue operation. One medical call tragically resulted in a fatality despite the coordinated efforts of emergency responders. Fire crews also responded to vehicle collisions involving wildlife and a commercial vehicle rollover. In addition, a stranded tourist near Rachel was successfully located and assisted without injury, demonstrating the importance of search and rescue capabilities in the county’s vast and remote terrain.
