The Caliente Community and Visitor Center is settling into its first month of operation, offering visitors tourism information while also creating new opportunities for local families through the library and weekly children’s programs.
Since opening its doors in mid-June, the center has welcomed residents and travelers during regularly scheduled business hours while launching a free Story Time program every Saturday afternoon. Each week features a different community volunteer who reads stories and leads activities for local children.

Dana Lee Fruend brought stories to life during the July 11 Saturday Story Time at the Caliente Community and Visitor Center.
Guest readers have included Mary Johnson, Commissioner Diane Path and Dana Lee Fruend, each bringing a unique theme to Story Time. Recent programs have explored topics including the American flag and the Pledge of Allegiance, while another featured a hands-on journey through local history. Children have enjoyed crafts, games and interactive activities following each reading.
Story Time is held every Saturday at 3 p.m. at the Caliente Community and Visitor Center and is free to attend. Organizers say additional volunteer readers are welcome and encourage community members interested in sharing a favorite book or activity with local children to get involved.
The visitor center is currently open Monday from 4 to 8 p.m., Tuesday through Saturday from noon to 4 p.m., and is closed Sundays. Hours remain subject to volunteer availability.
In addition to children’s programming, the center serves as a resource for visitors seeking information about Caliente and the surrounding area. Community members are encouraged to stop by, meet the volunteers and learn more about the programs and services now available.
