Youth proudly represented their communities at the annual Bruce Jensen Memorial Battle Born Showdown, bringing home multiple championships and top honors while competing against exhibitors from Nevada, Utah, Idaho and Arizona July 11-12 at the White Pine County Fairgrounds.

Katee Madsen shows her skills in the competition ring at The Bruce Jensen Battleborn Showdown in Ely.
More than just a livestock jackpot, the Bruce Jensen Memorial Battle Born Showdown was created to celebrate the life and legacy of Bruce Jensen, whose passion for agriculture and dedication to mentoring young people left a lasting impact on Nevada’s livestock community. Today, the event continues that mission by giving youth the opportunity to compete, learn from one another and develop the work ethic, responsibility, sportsmanship and lifelong friendships that livestock projects inspire.
The three-day event featured swine, goats, sheep and beef competitions, with exhibitors participating in showmanship, breeding and market classes. The unique two-show format gave youth the opportunity to compete before two different judges, rewarding consistency while providing valuable experience ahead of county fair season.
Leading the way was Katee Madsen of Lund, who enjoyed one of the weekend’s strongest performances with championships spanning both the goat and swine divisions.
Madsen earned Supreme Champion Goat Showman and Champion Senior Goat Showman in both Show A and Show B. She also claimed Champion Prospect Market Goat, Reserve Overall Champion Breeding Doe in Show A and Overall Champion Breeding Doe in Show B.
Her success continued in the swine ring, where she swept the breeding gilt championships under both judges, earning Supreme Champion Breeding Gilt and Champion Dark Cross Breeding Gilt in both shows. She also captured Champion Prospect Market Hog in both Show A and Show B before finishing Reserve Supreme Champion Swine Showman in Show A and returning to earn Supreme Champion Swine Showman in Show B.
Lund’s success continued with Clancee Madsen, who posted an outstanding weekend in the sheep division.
Clancee earned Champion AOB Breeding Ewe in Show A before adding Reserve Champion AOB Breeding Ewe in Show B. She also finished as Reserve Champion Intermediate Sheep Showman in Show B while recording top placings in both prospect and market lamb classes, demonstrating the depth and consistency of her sheep project.
Together, the Madsen sisters showcased the strength of local livestock programs, earning championships across goats, swine and sheep while competing against some of the region’s top exhibitors.
The Battle Born Showdown has become one of Nevada’s premier summer livestock events, attracting exhibitors from across the West while providing youth an opportunity to evaluate their projects before county fairs and major livestock exhibitions later in the year.
Although championships are celebrated, the weekend also highlights the values at the heart of youth livestock programs. Months of early mornings, daily care, feeding, grooming and training prepare exhibitors for their time in the ring, where sportsmanship and personal growth are just as important as ribbons and banners.
