The Lincoln County Authority of Tourism (LCAT) joined approximately 30 communities across the country in a conversation about rural living. On Saturday, July 25, LCAT hosted Rural Assembly Everywhere at the Caliente Depot Ballroom.

The free event invited residents and visitors to stop in throughout the afternoon to experience presentations, music and discussions exploring both the opportunities and challenges facing rural communities. Rather than following a traditional conference schedule, presentations were shown on a continuous loop, allowing guests to arrive at any time and enjoy the topics that interested them most.
Featured segments explored what defines rural communities, rural philanthropy and funding, mutual aid among neighbors and the future of rural America. Musical performances by Holiday Friends and Grace Rogers, along with a poetry reading by Angel Ballew, were also included in the program.
Local pianist Nani Mehring provided live music throughout the afternoon, creating a welcoming atmosphere inside the historic depot ballroom. As attendees visited with one another and enjoyed light refreshments, Mehring’s piano music filled the hall between presentations.
LCAT representatives, including Director Marcia Hurd and Commissioner Diane Path, said they were pleased with the turnout. They noted the event gave Lincoln County residents an opportunity to participate in a nationwide conversation while celebrating the values that continue to define rural communities, including strong relationships, local identity and a shared commitment to the places they call home.
