Nearly 40 children and their families gathered Wednesday morning at the Alamo Splash Pad for the Lincoln Community Coalition of Nevada’s “Splash Into Summer” event, enjoying games, water activities, lunch and prizes during the free community gathering.
Children ranging from 2 to 12 years old spent the morning creating chalk art, playing cornhole, competing in tug-of-war, navigating an obstacle course, enjoying Connect Four, racing down a slip-and-slide and cooling off in the splash pad. Many of the activities encouraged teamwork while giving children an opportunity to make new friends and enjoy an active day outdoors.

Children and their families gathered at the Alamo Splash Pad for the Lincoln Community Coalition of Nevada’s “Splash Into Summer” event. The free community activity featured games, water activities, lunch and prizes while highlighting the Coalition’s continued efforts to expand youth programming and partnerships with local schools throughout Lincoln County.
Families also enjoyed hot dogs for lunch, along with chips, soda, treats and prizes.
The event was designed to bring families together while providing children with a safe, fun environment to stay active and build friendships during the summer.
Looking ahead, the Lincoln Community Coalition has several family-focused events planned.
A free car seat safety check and replacement events will be held in two Lincoln County communities next week.
The first will take place Tuesday, July 28, from 5 to 7 p.m. in the Lincoln County Courthouse parking lot, 181 Main St. in Pioche.
A second event will be held Wednesday, July 29, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Caliente Depot parking lot, 100 Depot Ave. in Caliente.
Certified Child Passenger Safety Technicians will be available to inspect car seats for proper installation and replace seats when needed, helping families ensure children are traveling as safely as possible.
Plans are also underway for a community baby shower later this September. Although a date has not yet been announced, the event will provide diapers, wipes, clothing and other baby essentials for local families. Community members will also have the opportunity to donate baby items to support parents with young children.
As the school year approaches, backpack drives will once again be coordinated individually through local schools to better serve students in each community.
According to Executive Director Kimberly Andrus, the Lincoln Community Coalition is committed to creating positive opportunities for youth and families throughout Lincoln County. As it expands its outreach, the coalition hopes to become more involved with local schools and student leadership programs.
The coalition is also seeking to establish a youth coalition in Alamo and partner with students, school leaders and community organizations to organize dances, service projects and other activities that reflect the interests of local youth. Organizers believe giving students a voice in planning community events will help develop leadership skills while creating safe, engaging opportunities for young people and strengthening connections throughout the community.
