Lincoln County Fire District crews responded to a brushfire on the afternoon of Sunday, Aug. 2, just outside the Edwards Street fire station in Panaca.
Firefighters immediately deployed a water tender, driving directly into the flames and opening every valve to slow the fire while awaiting the arrival of the brush truck.

Lincoln County Fire District firefighters respond to a brush fire Sunday afternoon, Aug. 2, near the fire station.
Nearby resident Shawn Frehner, who first reported the fire, praised the quick response by local firefighters. Frehner shared, “We sure appreciate every one of our volunteer firefighters.”
Crews worked for more than two hours before the fire was fully extinguished, preventing it from spreading outside of the lot. The cause of the fire remains unknown at this time.
“We were thankful to be able to join together and get the fire out before any structures could be affected,” responding firefighter Landen Sinay said. “Our team is great, and I know we weren’t planning on putting a fire out right outside of our doors that day.”
The close-to-home response highlights the teamwork and dedication that residents will have an opportunity to learn more about during the upcoming First Responder Night on Aug. 15.
