August 17, 2026 Update: Alamo Sewer and Water System has rescinded the “Do Not Drink Notice.” Water quality testing has confirmed that tap water throughout the distribution system is safe for consumption and routine household use, lifting all precautionary restrictions immediately.
Alamo Sewer and Water GID has issued a drinking water warning for residents following a water main break that resulted in a system-wide loss of pressure.
The warning, issued Thursday, Aug. 13, states that a 6-inch water main at Purple Sage and Broadway burst, causing pressure to be lost throughout the Alamo water distribution system.

Because a loss of pressure can potentially allow contaminants to enter water lines through cracks, breaks or joints, residents are being advised not to drink tap water without boiling it first.
According to the notice, all water intended for consumption should be brought to a boil and allowed to boil for three minutes before being cooled and used. Bottled water may also be used.
Boiled or bottled water should be used for drinking, making ice, brushing teeth, washing dishes and preparing food until the warning is lifted.
The district cautioned that inadequately treated water could contain bacteria, viruses or parasites capable of causing illness. Infants, young children, older adults and individuals with severely compromised immune systems may be at greater risk.
The boil water warning is precautionary following the loss of pressure and will remain in place while the water system is tested. Residents will be notified when testing confirms that no bacteria are present and the water is again safe to use without boiling.
Alamo Sewer and Water GID anticipates the issue could take approximately three to seven days to resolve, according to the Aug. 13 notice.
Residents are encouraged to share the warning with neighbors and others who may not have received the notice directly, including those in apartments, schools and businesses.
