Flash flooding is impacting Lincoln County following heavy rainfall, causing road closures, power outages and structural flooding along U.S. Highway 93. The National Weather Service in Las Vegas issued a Flash Flood Warning for the area after severe storms dropped between 0.5 and 2.5 inches of rain. Flooding has been reported on U.S. 93 near the Lincoln-Clark county line and between Caliente and Panaca.
Travel across the region has become hazardous as rising runoff washes over major thoroughfares. Authorities have closed U.S. Highway 93 between Caliente and Panaca, while the northern entrance to Caliente was briefly shut down due to swift water. Additionally, the dip along Carrigan Road remained flooded and impassable. Drivers are urged to exercise extreme caution as road conditions continue to change rapidly across the county, where a traffic accident has already been reported on State Route 318 amid the stormy conditions.
The severe weather created significant disruptions for local residents, municipal utilities and neighborhood businesses. In the Agua Caliente community, floodwaters rose to the front doors of several homes, while Silver State Drug and J&J’s closed early as surrounding streets filled with water. Utility services have also been hit, with power outages reported across multiple areas.
Although the heaviest rainfall from the primary storm moved through, flooding impacts remain severe across local creeks, streams, roads and underpasses. With high water continuing to collect in low-lying areas, officials advise motorists to avoid the affected corridors entirely and never attempt to drive through flooded roadways.
A flash flood warning remains in effect until 8 p.m. Friday.
