Hotel History, a podcast dedicated to uncovering the stories behind the world’s most iconic and unusual hotels, has released an episode exploring the hotels, motels and folklore surrounding Nevada’s State Route 375, also known as the Extraterrestrial Highway.
Beginning their exploration in Tonopah with the historic and Mizpah Hotel, the episode discusses the mining history of the area along with the more recent history of secret government facilities and strange sights in the dark skies above. Co-hosts D’Etta Brown and Yael Lilit also recount their experiences in the alien-themed businesses that have popped up in the wake of the route’s rechristening in 1996 as the Extraterrestrial Highway.
“We didn’t know what to expect when we began the trip, but we definitely understand the appeal of the area and why people might spot unexplainable things in the vast skies of this region,” said Lilit. “This area is a hidden gem,” continued Brown. “Between the incredible landscape, amazing stargazing, and friendly small towns full of American history, anyone planning a road trip through Nevada won’t regret stopping there.”
The episode is the first in the podcast’s seasonal theme “Cosmic Summer,” which continued throughout June and July with episodes about hotels for stargazers, the Roswell UFO Festival, and Sedona’s vortex hospitality.
The ET Highway episode is currently available on Apple, Spotify and other streaming platforms. Details are available at www.hotelhistorypodcast.com.
