Lincoln County High School and Battle Born Track Club runners put on a dominant showing at the Pioche Labor Day 5K/10K on Saturday, Sept. 5, capturing top honors and setting multiple personal records despite the high-altitude, hilly course.
Lincoln County High School sophomore Bradley Pike, running with Battle Born Track Club, won the boys’ 10,000-meter race at Pioche Town Park on Saturday, Sept. 5. Kylee Graf took the gold in the girls’ 5k, followed by Kensley Bleak in second and sixth-grader Leah Graf in third. William Pike won the boys’ 5k event with a time of 18:17, followed by sophomore Mason Lamb in second.
“[Brad Pike] put down an excellent time of 37:56. That’s amazing on a flat course, to get that on the Pioche 10k hilly course at altitude is outstanding,” informed LCHS head coach Lacie Pearson. “Will Pike bettered his 5k time by 28 seconds over last year, and Keaton Smith bettered his time by 3:53 over last year.”
Smith was fifth in the 5k with a personal best time of 22:29, and Ethan Graf was sixth, setting a personal record of 23:31.
“I was impressed with the Graf sisters, both Kylee and sixth-grade Leah, who garnered finish times of 24:15 and 26:07, respectively, for their 5K run, with Kylee being the first woman finisher of the race,” Pearson said.
Pearson also said that Lamb would be Lincoln County’s number-three runner this season and “was very happy with his finish time of 19:43.” In 2A cross-country, the top four runners from each team score.
“All in all, the team had excellent results at the race this weekend, and kudos to Cameron Frehner for his inaugural year of becoming the volunteer race director for this legendary Labor Day 5K/10K Run,” Pearson commented.
Next up for the Lynx cross-country teams is the Silver State 3k at Veterans Memorial Park in Boulder City on Saturday, Sept. 19. Varsity boys start at 6:40 a.m. and varsity girls go at 7 a.m.
